BIG ISLAND SCENES   As an owner of Big Island property, I'm familiar with the Island of Hawaii and other islands in the chain. These photos were used in travel stories I wrote for the Anchorage Daily News.
Clockwise from top: Private beach near at Hapuna has shoreline caves. Wind at South Point on the Big Island has shaped this tree. At night, lava flowing into the ocean on the east side of the the island glows like neon. A mural near the slow-paced town of Captain Cook advertises trail rides with Big Island paniolos (Hawaiian cowboys).
